DrinkWise™ contains the following natural ingredients:

– Vitamin C:

Vitamin C, also known as ascorbate or ascorbic acid, is a critical coenzyme for multiple reactions in human physiology and a key anti-oxidant.  This water-soluble nutrient does not store in the body, thus regular alcohol consumption or “binge drinking” sessions significantly increase the loss of this nutrient, thus negatively effecting an array of processes in body including detoxification, immune function, glutathione production and connective tissue integrity.

– Vitamin B complex including B1 (Thiamine), B2 (Riboflavin), B3 (Niacinamide), B5 (Pantothenic acid), B6 (Pyridoxine), B7 (Biotin), B9 (Folate) and B12 (methlycobalamin):

B complex vitamins are crucial water-soluble nutrients that act as coenzymes throughout the body, especially within nervous system function.  Regular consumption of alcohol causes a depletion of these nutrients and may contribute to physical malaise, brain function and memory loss, and even physical tremor (“the shakes”), which may be especially notable upon alcohol withdrawal.  Supplementation of B1, B6, Folate and B12 should be of focus with any individual whom regularly partakes in consuming alcohol containing beverages.

– Magnesium and Potassium (as Aspartates):

Magnesium and Potassium are important electrolytes minerals responsible for the “electro-signaling” of numerous physiologic functions in the human body, especially within the nervous system, and with muscle function such as contraction and relaxation.  These minerals are rapidly lost with increased urination such as when alcohol is consumed.  Magnesium and Potassium in the Aspartate (an amino acid) form have higher absorption due to being able to enter the cell more rapidly.

– Zinc  (as Monomethionine):

Zinc is an anti-oxidant mineral required by all mammalian organisms for healthy immune function and detoxification processes.  This mineral works hand-in-hand with vitamin C to insure proper defense response toward viruses by keeping white blood cells functioning properly.  Zinc also plays a contributory role in liver detoxification of toxic byproducts of alcohol metabolism such as acetaldehyde.  Zinc, being a trace mineral, may be depleted when urinary excretion is increased such as with alcohol use.  The Monomethionine form of Zinc has added benefit to both absorption of the mineral as well as boosting detoxification capabilities.

– Selenium (as MethylSelene® L-Se-Methylselenocysteine):

Selenium is a key trace mineral in detoxification throughout the liver and entire body by playing a key role in the production of glutathione, known as the “master anti-oxidant”.  L-Se-Methyselenocysteine is premier form of selenium for promoting healthy glutathione levels by providing increased bioavailability of the mineral as well as complimenting various detoxification pathways.

– Molybdenum (as Methionate):

Molbdenum is a trace mineral often found to be deficient in both drinkers and non-drinkers alike.  Molydenum plays a crucial role in the production of sulfite oxidase, the enzyme that breaks-down sulfites which are often responsible for wine associated headaches.  The Methionate form of this mineral increases both bioavailability and detoxification processes.

– Lipoic acid:

Also known as alpha-Lipoic acid and Thioctic acid, this B-vitamin-like substance is a key player in the metabolism, detoxification and elimination of acetaldehyde, the toxic byproduct of alcohol consumption.  Lipoic acid supplementation has been shown to accelerate the clearance of acetaldehyde by boosting production of aldehyde dehydrogenase, the enzyme that breaks-down the toxin to acetate which is then eliminated in the urine.  Lipoic acid also promotes production of glutathione, the master anti-oxidant which protects the liver and also promotes detoxification.

– Livinol™ (Garcinia indica):

Livinol™ is source of garcinol, the active molecule in Garcina indica, a fruit known as “Kokum” within the mangosteen family.  Livinol™ is an evidence-based ingredient with scientific studies showing its benefits in maintaining a healthy liver.  This natural compound is widely used in Korea and Japan as a traditional “hangover remedy”, while also protecting the liver from hepatic steatosis, commonly known as “fatty liver syndrome”.

– NAC (N-Acetyl-Cysteine):

N-Acetyl-Cysteine is a sulfur-bearing (not to be confused with sulfite) amino acid playing a vital role in detoxification via production of glutathione.  NAC is the single, most effective way to boost production of the “master anti-oxidant” since glutathione supplements are both expensive and poorly absorbed.  NAC has also been shown to protect the liver from paracetamol (acetaminophen) toxicity and injury, common with overuse or when taken with alcohol.

– Panacin™ (Andrographis paniculata):

This herb, known as “King of Bitters” has been used for thousands of years as a remedy for many health conditions.  From improved digestion to anti-inflammatory properties, Andrographis is also commonly prescribed over-the-counter for colds, runny-nose (rhinitis) and the aches and pains of arthritis.  Recent scientific studies have also been demonstrating the herb as having potent hepato-protection and detoxification properties.  Andrographis has been shown to maintain healthy liver enzymes which may be elevated due to various lifestyle habits such as drinking alcohol.

– PicroLiv® (Picrorhiza kurroa):

Picrorhize kurroa is an herb used traditionally by many cultures for thousands of years.  This botanical is widely praised within the Ayurveda medical system specifically for its liver benefits.  Recent scientific studies have shown the herb to be a source of kutkin and picrosides, naturally occurring compounds which promote the Phase 2 detoxification pathway of the liver.  Due to this detoxification property, the herb has been shown to benefit a variety of liver disorders including cirrhosis, hepatomegaly and hepatitis.

Phyllanthus amarus

Commonly known as “Gale-of-the-Wind” and “Stonebreaker”, this herb has demonstrated thousands of years of traditional use in maintaining health by cultures around the world.  Medical science has validated its benefits to the liver in conditions such as Hepatitis B and protection against paracetamol toxicity.  Phyllanthin, the naturally occurring molecule in the herb has also been demonstrated to protect the liver through a variety of mechanisms including reduction of oxidative stress on liver cells.  A recently published randomized,
